Day 4: Baby Fever

“In a child's eyes, a mother is a goddess. She can be glorious or terrible, benevolent or filled with wrath, but she commands love either way. I am convinced that this is the greatest power in the universe.”
- J.K. Jemisin

The number one thing I experience every day is the dreaded baby fever...may I say, its the worse thing EVER when your at a point in your life where its just not the time to add another member to your family. I sometimes feel like I nag my boyfriend to the point where I think I make him reconsider another baby. At first he ALWAYS was against a second one. After a difficult pregnancy and having a very high maitinence little girl, he was a little hesistant to more tiny feet running around the house. I, on the other hand, would have 4 kids if I didn't work and could stay home to take care of all of them.

"Mommy, why do my feet stink?"

I feel like my little munchkins years are passing me by, and I wish I savored them more. I always felt like I rushed by everything. I always wanted to see what would happen next, and I think a lot of first time parents do the same thing. I will say though, however, it is not easy trying to overcome this baby fever, but this is what I have come up with to help relieve SOME of the symptoms...

1. Thinking about my much needed sleep. My daughter didn't sleep through the night without waking up multiple times until she was 1 year old. I was a zombie until now since I feel like I have caught up on my sleep officially, but I don't miss the sleepless nights.
2. I look through my pregnancy scrap book. I love looking at the ultra sounds and seeing how much she grew from being the size of a grape to a newborn. Although it does remind me of babies, I do not miss the whole pregnancy part. Some people LOVED being pregnant, others not so much. I was one of those of those women who couldn't wait for the pregnancy to be over. I just wanted to see that sweet little face, and skip over the heartburn and swollen ankles.
3. I will admit I don't miss the days of when you felt like you were packing for a week vacation when you had to leave with a baby. Now that my daughter eats all adult food and no more baby food or formula, its nice to leave the house with a sippy cup, maybe a snack and leave some diapers and wipes in my car. It's much easier.
4. Going to the grocery store with just one toddler is much easier than going with a toddler and a newborn. I would like to appreciate maybe another year of only having one. Might be a weak reason, but its a good one in my book.

OK, so maybe those are not the best reasons in the world to wait for another baby, but they help the fever come down for a little while, until I decide to nag my boyfriend for another.

Now here's some reasons to HAVE another baby:
1. That new baby smell...god I miss that sometimes.
2. All the cute mini clothes that you have held onto from your last JUST in case you wanted another...well you get to bring those bad boys out to enjoy again!
3. Reliving all of the baby stages, and learning to stop and ENJOY them.
4. Their feet.
5. Their hands.
6. Their smiles.
7. Their laugh.
8. I think everything about babies is a pro!

There is really no pro or con list to having another baby, its just learning to adjust to having another little one running around and taking over your house instead of just one or none at all. Its something I will never get tired of, and I will miss these days. Until then, I will wrap myself in all of the love that little heart has to give, and enjoy every second of it that I can.
