Weight Loss Challenge! Day 1

"A first child is your own best foot forward, and how you do cheer those little feet as they strike out."

- Barbara Kingsolver

I don't think its fair what Hollywood actors and actresses have done to the idea of what a postpartum body SHOULD look like. You see stars like Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Lopes who have had multiple children and you would never know a precious little baby (or babies) have traveled through those narrow little hips. I envy any actress who has managed to maintain their perfect figure while still embracing mother hood.

When I had my daughter, I GAINED 60lbs. I had preeclampsia and very high blood pressure for the last 2 months of my pregnancy. Mind you, I was only 130lbs when I found out I was pregnant. I lost 30lbs the first week after having my daughter. What about those last 30lbs you ask? Well, their still kickin' around. Those bad boys are holding on for DEAR life.

I will admit though, partially it is my fault. Its difficult to exercise when I am stuck at a desk for 45 hours a week typing my heart out and dealing with miserable customers who complain their vehicle was done a day later than expected. I did recently start watching what I eat. I cut out all soda, and try to avoid the temptations during the week. I do cheat on the weekends, but when I say cheat I don't mean eat like a glutton and make up for all the junk food I COULD have been bingeing on. Instead I just take it down a notch. Rather than having a salad for lunch, I will share some macaroni and cheese with some chicken with my daughter or some pizza. If you didn't cheat, you wouldn't be able to stay on the diet.

I try to snack more during the day rather than starving myself between meals and eating 3 large meals instead of 5 smaller ones, which they says is better for your metabolism anyways. I am also buying a bicycle this weekend so I am hoping to attach one of those baby trailers to it and take my daughter along.

I would like to (once a week) weigh myself and update on what I am doing to lose the weight I have gained from my daughter. My boyfriend and I would like to try again for another baby in a year to 18 months (YAY! Finally a solution to this baby fever) so my goal was to lose as much of that 30lbs BEFORE I get pregnant again.

If you have any weight loss tips or tricks for after having a baby, please share them!! Such as work outs with your child or great healthy snacks to eat with a low calorie count.

Day 1 Weigh in:
Weight: 165
Goal: 130
Pounds left to lose: 35

Good luck to all of you! And be proud of your post partum bodies! You made something beautiful, life! You gave birth to a beautiful baby, a person, who will one day thank you for your hard work.

*I am not a health care professional, but I do recommend talking to yours before starting any sort of diet or exercise. Also DO NOT start exercising until your doctor gives the OK after having a baby.
